WHAT TO EXPECT
Sydney receives over 10 million international and domestic visitors each year for its beaches and attractions. Given its favorable weather, rich European history, vibrant economy and diverse lifestyle options, it is not surprising that Australia's largest city is such a popular destination for international students.

If you're thinking about working in Australia, then there's probably a few things you should know.
- Australian Bank Account :
There are four major commonly used banks, they are – Commonwealth Bank of Australia, Westpac, ANZ, National Australia Bank. It's easy, to open an account go into any bank with your passport and they'll take it from there.
- Australian Mobile Phone Number:
Setting up your phone is very easy. There are three major networks, all of which have “pre-pay” options – Vodafone, Optus and Telstra. Please note that if your mobile phone from home is “locked” to your network, it may not work with an Australian SIM. To register an Australian SIM Card you will need your passport number and your Easystay home address. Easy.
- Tax File Number:
You must have a TFN to work in Australia. It is free, you apply online via the Tax Office website. You'll need your passport details and your Australian address.
- Medicare Card:
Medicare cards allow certain nationals (depending from which country you come from and what visa you have) to receive some medical treatments free of charge while in Australia. To check that you are eligible please click here. If you are eligible, you can apply for your free Medicare card at any Medicare office. The closest one to us is: 19 - 23 Hollywood Ave, Bondi Junction, NSW, 2022. Click here to print off an application form. Make sure you bring a copy of your visa, your passport and the complete application form with you when you apply.
